Finished Assessments!

I spent about 5 hours at my home station on Friday night trying to finish my assessments. Not one call!! So, since time was getting short I went to another station in a nearby town that runs a ton!! I had done a shift there last weekend and did one assessment and needed to get the paperwork. Well, I got the paperwork for that call and ran four more. I was there until 0530 this morning. We ran a "seizure" call which turned out to be a woman who had passed out. She signed a release and we went on our way.
Later we had an injured subject. The call was at a bar and there were 4 or 5 police cars outside when we pulled up. We had three students on the rig(all male) plus the lead EMT who was female and the driver (an older gentleman). The lead felt a little nervous so I handed off the gear I had grabbed to one of the other students and I acted as bodyguard at first. I just made sure to watch her back. The injured subject was a drunk who got his butt kicked bad!! He did not want much help and copped an attitude all the way to the hospital. (He was still there on my last run)
We transported a man with back pain who had been seen a few days earlier and did not feel the drugs were working.
The last call was a man with bronchitis and COPD who was having trouble breathing. We had a medic ride to the hospital on that one. He gave him some drugs through an IV and an inhaler.
I got home about 0600 and slept until about 0900. I am getting ready to crash soon. 0430 comes awfully early!!

Class is over

I have had my last official class for my EMT. Now all that is left is a few voluntary get togethers to practice, a trip to the Baltimore Shock Trauma unit, the state written exam and the state practical. Nervous does not begin to describe how I feel!

Work is hectic, to say the least. It all was seems that when the bosses are gone things go crazy and the big wigs want everything. Looks like a long day with a bad commute at the end. Monday was a three hour trip home because it was raining, last night was about 2 hours to get to class because it wasn't raining. I do not want to think about how crazy tonight will be! I hate the DC traffic!

I still have at least one assessment to get. I have not gotten the paperwork back on any of the other 4 yet so I may be in deep dookie if I don't get it! IF I do not have them done, I can not sit for the state written exam.

Happy Thanksgiving to All!!!

Busy Weekend

I am still trying to finish all my assessments. I went to a busy neigboring station on Friday night to try to finish them up. Other people from class have gone there and gotten finished in one night. Not ME!! Two calls all night, one was cancelled on the way to it. The one I did get was interesting. Call went out as seizure. Turns out the patient was high on PCP. We got there and he was on the ground handcuffed because he had lead the police on a high speed chase.
Spent most of Saturday evening at my station and got another assessment.
Work is going allong. Both my program manager and Branch Chief are on leave this week. So yesterday I am in the Colonel's office several times. Not the place the average Staff Sergeant wants to be!!
Happy Thanksgiving to all!!

First time!

This is my first post and I do not really know what to say. I am working hard to pass my EMT course and get certified. I have 2 classes left, then the state written exam and the state practical. I am not worried about the written, but I sweat everytime I think about the practical. I also need evaluations on real calls, so I will be spending the weekend at the firehouse to try to get my 5 assessments done.
I will fill everyone in on my life a little as we go!
