Not a Great Day

I had high hopes for today. I was going to take the written portion of the Combat Lifesaver Class I am taking, and ace it. I figured I would get home relatively early today. I did get home early, but not the way I had hoped. I was half way to work when I realized I forgot my uniform. I turned around so I could come get it. While waiting to turn into my driveway, I was rear-ended. I was treated and transported by my wonderful comrades at EMS company 2!! How embarrassing!!
Worse part of the whole affair is it looks like my truck is totaled. There is no way I can replace it for what I will get. Good thing I did not know that on scene or I would have killed the MFer that hit me!!

More Training

I am spending Tuesday -Friday of this week in Combat Life Saver Training. Some of it is very similar to some of the EMT training I have already had. We do get to stick IV's. This course we do it twice, we did it today as practice and a test on Friday. I bled like a pig when I got stuck. IT took 3 tries to get one started. I missed twice on one girl. She had crappy veins, even the medic said he would have had trouble. Got someone with decent veins and got it right away.

I PASSED!!!!

I passed the National Registry for EMT-B exam!!!! On my first try! Now I have to wait for the results in the mail so I can see how well I did.
Looks like Germany is out. Just do not think it would be best choice at this time. Not sure about the ETT to Afghanistan, will have to wait and see!!

What a weekend!!

Last week was a long week. The boss came back after being out of the office for two weeks. This bothered me so much, I ended with some intestinal problems and was out for a few days. On Wednesday, I took the National Registry for EMT exam over in Springfield. I only have to wait 4 to 8 weeks for results! Thursday and Friday were butt kickers at work.
I did my usual Friday night at the fire house and kept Hughesville safe again. Not a run. Saturday was different. Went up around 2pm since the snow was coming down pretty good. I left at 10 am Sunday having had about an hour or two of total sleep. I went on two calls before 7pm, then all was quiet on the EMS side until the middle of the night. Two calls went out, but I stayed back to give others a chance to run, and to be part of the crew for the second ambulance if needed. I got out on a call at about 5am, but we got put in service before we got there. We could see the lights from the other units over the hill reflecting in the snow when we got the word to head home!
Could not sleep because of all the damn fire side calls! I never realized the fire department gets the calls to cut up trees that are down across roads and on power lines etc. They were going off like crazy!!I actually put on fire gear and went out on one with the guys. I crashed hard on Sunday night!! I was in bed around 8pm that night.
Now it looks like the sand box wont happen, but I may go to Germany. Lets see what my college friend says about that!!

Life in the Fast Lane

Seems like life is really flying lately. I have been working a lot, trying to still spend time at the fire house, be a dad, etc. I am looking into a year long trip to a very mountainous country to join some of my comrades in arms. I am trying to get a trip to train the new national army there. IF it happens, which with my luck it wont, I will be leaving here in March and leaving the country in May. I have a friend from college who does not seem to approve.
IF this does not happen, I will be taking a combat lifesaver course in February, going to a national EMS convention in Baltimore in March and going to a preparendeness expo in DC in May. Life in the fast lane!!
I just got an email from an other friend from college. She was my fraternity little sister and I had not heard from her in a long time. I Found her through our college website. She just got married last month and added 3 kids to the family!
